When meeting neighbors in the street I usually wait for them to greet me before I greet them except when he is a friend.

Same here. I expect them to greet me before I greet them. Enjoy your day.

Sometimes I get annoyed when I greet a person with a smile and he doesn't greet me back. I am not a snob but I do it sometimes because of some neighbors who have no good manners to speak of. I just ignore them.

I used to. Now a days not much so. I avoid the local contact. But make sure to chat for hours from balcony. It works out for me.

Yes, with the present condition of the atmosphere we should learn how to avoid people. What I do is to wave as a form of greeting to avoid any unnecessary conversation that can lead to contamination, if ever the person is a carrier of the virus.

Since we are new in the neighborhood, we do not greet them. However, we give them some food, especially if there are special occasions.

When I was new in the neighborhood, I tried to greet everyone I meet outside. But when we have been here for years, it seemed like I don't mind people that I do not know well.

It depends how old are the people! I don't mind wishing the people who are elder to me first!
Even in case of kids also I take an initiative as this teaches them about wishing the neighbors and other seniors around them!
I am not really fussy about the wishing!
I never never take wishing as an issue of ego!

With kids I would greet them but if they do not greet me back then that would be the end of our communication. Parents should teach the kids the proper manner outside the home.

Repeated greetings to the kids on daily basis makes them aware about the greeting the elders and they learn it very fast! This is my personal experience!

Same with me, it is not good to greet all the strangers because one time I smiled back to a man and he happens to be soliciting money. That is a bad experience.

Usually, when we bump on the way, we just smile or give a nod on these people.
