I know sign language is primarily for the deaf and hard of hearing but the hearing could also benefit from understanding signing. It wouldn’t hurt to learn if one is interested depending on why they want or need to learn.

Signing has always fascinated me and I wonder how those gestures could translate to conversations. How those I see on TV  can translate a speech as it is delivered live. Watching the hand movements, it all looked so complex to me. I have always wanted to learn signing a long time ago but never got to pursue it.

Have you ever been interested to learn sign language?

We had a gardener who was deaf and mute.  He worked for us for 10 years.  I spoke to him in sign language.  He was 'talkative' and I used to tell him he 'spoke' too much  He did a lot of work for us  Even went to town to buy things for us and even visited the bank and Post Office.

I have never been exposed to the deaf people so I do not know sign language. But I see on tv the sign language interpreter. It makes me think how many deaf people are there in our country.

I have a blind school here in Jerusalem and they do the lights for crossing so the blind will understand them and know what to do. I have never learned it. I always thought it was fascinating to know how to sign and be able to talk to blind people. I never got around to it.

Sign language for the blind is another thing. It’s tactile sign language suited for their sight impairment. Now I wonder how is tactile signing too.

I try to learn the language, but except for few gestures I fail to understand the language! I think we need to learn the language in a systematic way!

Normal persons use sign language to communicate but not as sophisticated like those signs used by the deaf and mute persons.
