The new born is certainly a member of the family. That  statement about the baby being treated as a guest does not hold water.

In our culture the baby is called our baby which means it is a possessive term. We never mention the word guest for the baby.

In my country, we always say a new member of the family. I wondered why they say a new guest. Is there any reason for this?

For me, A new born baby is a new member of the Family. Some people say guest while some people say family member. They speak as they like. We don't pay attention to what people say.

Undoubtedly new born baby is member of the family. When new Baby burn some people used to tell like we have new guest for our family. But newborn baby is member of the family.

Well when we think about it literally the baby is not a guest. Yes You're right. He is a new family member.

But since he's just come. He needs to be taken care until he's fully welcome and given a name, christened as a member of the family.
