Take a wide mouthed vessel which is neither too sallow nor too deep and pour some cold water in it, now put the egg in question in the water.

If the egg lie at the bottom on its side it means it is a fresh egg.

If the egg is tilted with its large end up means egg is older but edible.

If the egg floats on water, it is not for consumption!

This is called as 'Egg Water Test.'

Did you know this?

Yes, we always test the egg on water to know if it is still new and edible. Sometimes I find an old egg with the white seeming to be scattered on the pan.

Yes. but I rarely do it as I know the eggs we buy are fresh and consume within a week or two and it's refrigerated.

Yes, but then we really don't know how fresh they were when we bough at the store! So this test is always helpful one to ascertain the quality of the egg!

We mostly get fresh eggs and so never felt the need but when we crack the egg if the egg is not fresh it shows.

I hear for this but I never tried. I mostly buy eggs and spend it on two or three eggs. I don't buy it to much.

My mother is expert on detecting the quality of the egg without using this test. She had raised some hens that lay eggs back then.

I sometimes smell the eggs. If it is a rotten egg, it smells like a dead rat. In this way, I can able to determine it.

This is a good experiment for the Elementary pupils. I know the science teacher is letting her pupils do this.
